Is my motor smoking too bad? (video link)

This is a video I took of me starting and running my motor in a test tank. It is a 1983 Chrysler 7.5HP. Some questions:

1. Is it smoking too bad? I know all 2 cycles smoke but this seems excessive. I am using 50:1 in it, no stabilizer or anything else.

2. Do the RPM's sound OK when I rev it up? It seems like its running a little high on RPMs. I didnt even get it to WOT in this video.

3. Check out the water stream coming out. It looks ok to me, but is it too weak?

I think thats all the questions I have. If anyone notices anything out of the ordinary, please post.
Thanks

Water flow looks good when revved up, but a little weak at idle.

Revs - they will will rev real high when in neutral as there is no resistance on the engine.

Smoke - a bit much for me.
I would do a thorough decarb (or 2) on that motor.
Then switch to a full synthetic oil.

Smoke will be cut down to about 20% of what you have.

OK thanks for the good advice. I will do the decarb. Once I load the tank with gas and seafoam and do the decarb, can I run it in a barrell at idle until the gas/seafoam is gone? Then can I load up some more gas without seafoam and run a gallon of it through? I guess what I am asking is if I can safely let it idle for that long a period of time in a test tank.

You can let it idle as long as you want, provided it is pumping cooling water.

Get some Deep Creep or RingFree and spray it in the cylinders and let it soak.

Then run the Seafoam.
You will get better results if you run it hard and fast.
Idling it will likely not do any good.

That looks like a bit too much smoke, what do the plugs look like? My wife complains about me smoking the neighbors out. Just wait until I decarb with the seafoam. She may move out! :D

That video was taken with new plugs in it. The old ones I took out right before that were pretty cruddy. I did the seafoam thing in the test tank then popped some new plugs in there, the ones that went through the decarb were pretty black when I got done, but for the most part plugs are cheap so I replaced them afterwards.

I need to change the lower unit oil, then its off to the lake Saturday for the maiden voyage.

Mine smokes alot too, when I first start it, and let it run for a little bit in neutral. Once it's in gear and reved up a bit, (as I noticed with yours too), the smoke kind of subsides a little. Then, once I go back to idle out of gear, there's very little smoke emissions.

when I first started it this season, I think I killed every mosquito within 5 miles. My kids didn't even want to be associated with the boat -- I did the whole fogging oil thing, and it took awhile to burn all of that crap out. But again, once I put it in gear, drove it around the lake about 2 minutes, it was fine at low idle.

I think I will switch to synthetic today though, from what I'm hearing. If it'll help, I'll do 'er.

Just some follow up info on this thread:

I took her out last weekend for the first time. Everything went 100% great. It smoked a little when I first started it, but once I put it in gear and headed out the smoke was non existent or at least not visible.

I did, however switch to a synthetic blend oil. I was using the wal-mart brand super tec, but I changed to a synthetic blend pennzoil. it did seem to cut the smoke down some.

Thanks to all who chimed in!
