It looks bent to me but I dont see how it could have gotten that way. The motor can turn to the right, but when I try and go left it hits and stops in the middle.

Its from a 1988 evinrude 110hp

Time to get a new one. Is hardened SST, do not try to bend it back, just change.

Gotcha, well when I took it off, I didnt notice that the part it connected to broke off. Is that a whole new cable I have to get or is it a single rod? Anyway you can tell me what thats called?

Heres a pic. You can see the piece that broke.

You need to change complete cable and link.

Something must have hit really hard on that engine for such a damage to happen???

With the steering link removed, does the motor turn easily by hand to the mechanical stops in both directions?

What did you hit? Or did somebody run into you in a parking lot ?

Yes the motor turns very easy and stops when it hits.

And it was like that when I bought it. I didnt think it looked right when I got it home.

Not complaining, I only paid $500 for boat, trailer and 110hp evinrude.

I got the steering cable off today and I cannot find anywhere to purchase a new one. Can someone tell me what exactly this is called and where I can buy a new one please?

I appreciate it. the bad thing is, I cant get it out to see what length I would need. Its coming off a 1988 Javelin with a 88 110hp Evinrude. I am thinking it would be a 10'. Does that sound right?

You'll have to get it out if you want to change it - sounds right??
If bent in the engine end and difficult to get out from the engine, take a grinder and cut!

Ok, Another small question. I was watching a video on how to replace the stearing cable and they were using a "iHook" to hoist the motor. I have searched again for one of them "iHooks" that get screwed about the flywheel and cant find one anywhere.. Where can you purchase them, and is that even what it is called? (heres a pic of what it is)

That is a Mercury type and requires a threaded flywheel.
Get yourself a flywheel puller and use that for lifting. The OMC/BPR original one has a lifting eye as add-on to their puller similar to the one on the below pic.
