is rebuilting o/b motor worth it

lost one of my pistons on my 1989 90hp johnson, and im afraid to pull the power head off since the piston mashed up the spark plug. Should i bother pull this thing apart and rebuilding or just start looking for an new outboard. <br /><br />Thanks <br />dave

i would pull it apart and see what happened what do u have to lose? just alittle time ? might not take alot to get it going again

Spend a few minutes online looking at the prices of new outboards. That should help give you some incentive to see exactly what's wrong with your 90hp. If it's salvagable a good rebuild should be a lot cheaper than a new replacement, and with less risk than just going out and buying someone else's used outboard whose history you don't know.
