Is saltwater okay for Evinrude XP?

Hello, I have a 1988 Evinrude XP motor that has been used in fresh water only. After I fix my ignition issue I would like to occasionally run it in the ocean.

Would the saltwater cause much harm to this motor as compared to the oceanrunner? Im assuming its not as salt water resistant.

Just wondering ...

There have been literally thousands that were run in salt water, and it will be fine. Just be sure to thoroughly flush it with fresh water after you use it and give everything a good wash down. Using salt away or a similar product will also help.
