Is the beeping alarm JUST for oil tank level?

Had another discussion on the alarm here - http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?p=2866337&posted=1#post2866337 and didn't get an answer on one critical question.

My oil alarm is going off and I've determined the sensor is bad. I always fill the oil tank before every trip, so I am not worried about the tank level. Just want to be sure I'm not missing something here if I disconnect the sensor until I can get a replacement. (My kids are off to college in a week and we want to enjoy the last few days on the water before they leave.)

The same alarm horn also sounds for over heating problems. You will get a steady beep for over heating and an intermittant beep for oil problems. In your case low oil in the tank. The oil level alarm is usally caused by a magnet falling off the float inside the tank. However a defective alarm module can cause the same problem. The last 2 oil tanks I ordered did not come with the floats installed and so far I have not been able to find any. Since the alarm in these cases monitored oil level only they just make sure to check the level regulary and disconnected the blue wires coming from the tank.

Re: Is the beeping alarm JUST for oil tank level?

Thanks for the info... that's what I suspected, but just makes me feel better to hear it from someone else. We had an awesome day today on the lake and she ran fine. I always fill my oil tank before each outing, and never use more than about 1/4 tank so I'm not worried about the sensor being disconnected.

So from what you are saying, it sounds like this is not repairable? If I order a new tank from Mercury, will it not work? I found one place that looks to have the sensor alone, but I'm not sure about that and will call them next week.

Thanks for the help.
