First off check the direction of the arrow on the primer bulb, yes the bulb should get hard to sqeeze when system is prime, if you are pumping fuel into the engine through failed needle valves in carb then you certainly would see it dribbling out through crankcase drain down by the prop. if there were a leak by the quick coupler you should also see that, these are the typical bulb not getting hard causes.

There is suppose to be check ball in the bulb so that may be bad and with no check it will just swish gas back and forth, if it were the fuel pump or a hose you would certainly smell gas.

I would start there, they are cheap and it wounds like you need a new one.

You shoudl really get a manual for that if you are going to work on it, either here or on Ebay if money is tight, they are a little pricey but worth every dime the first time you use it.

Get an OEM OMC one not Clymers or Seloc or anything on CD.

Replace your fuel lines from tank to the carb. while your at it. Make sure you get the new lines approved for ethanol gas. I agree with above re: replacement of the bulb unless you see gas leaking out somewhere. Rick.

The fuel pump is on the front of the motor. Has a glass filter bowl on it. There is a hose coming off one side of it. Remove that hose and squeeze the masher bulb and if gas squirts out of the hose fitting, the diaphragm is perforated. Repair kits are available right here at iboats.

A leaking float valve in the carburetor will dump gas down into the manifold and flood the engine.
