Is the OMC foam transom seal any good???

I just bought a Sierra foam transom seal for my 89 OMC cobra and the old one was a rubber one with no break in it. This new one is a foam one that will have to have a joint in it which seems dumb because it just a rope foam seal. how are you supposed to seal that joint up correctly and is there a silicone or sealant of some type you use around the whole seal? Or should I find the oem rubber one? I have a OMC manual and it says to use "OMC adhesive M" is that the same thing as like permatex ultra black? Thanks, Austin

hey guys i dont mean to butt in to your post but i need some help. i have a boat that was given to me it was in very good working condition engine wise when parked at my grandpas body shop. needed some repairs do to a little crash. I dont know if it was flushed or anything but i would like to get it going again. it was parked in 2003. what do i need to do before i can try to see if the engine will turn over. oh by the way it is a merc stright 6 inboard/outboard motor. i Have never owned a boat so i am a rookie at this boating stuff. thanks for the help

I guess I should have done a little more research before i opened my mouth, I guess all the seals are foam it just looks like rubber when you pull them off, and I hear that using weatherstripping adhesive and some silicone works everytime thanks mthieme for the reply.

You also need to get a service manual for Cobra drives. It answers your question. FYI all the seals are split and need to be glued together on one end. When you take your old one out you'll see the split.
