Is the plug out?

So how many times have you gone out to check the boat after a hard rain or several days of hard rain and found that you forgot to remove the plug last time you had the boat out? A boat full of nice clean rainwater sure turns nasty real fast.

Re: Is the plug out?

Yeah, it happened to me once. Towed my 20' to the ramp and thought boy this is pulling harder than usual. Got to the ramp and realized that we had left the plug in. There had been several weeks of rain, lots of rain. We took the plug out and ran the 900 gph bilge. It took 15 minuets to get it all drained. Did wonder why the tires on the trailer looked sort of flattened. Luckily it didn't get to the starter or oil.

Re: Is the plug out?

Si, I've been reading all these threads about plugs. I have never been able to get the plug out of my 12', I just flip it to drain it. And my 18' has the plug chained to the transon. I pull out of the water, pull the plug, drive up the ramp, and put the plug back in once the water is drained. Never gonna have problems with either one.

Course I was with a buddy and his boat. All the way to the lake he kept telling me he had the plug. When we got to the lake, we launched. He drove and parked and I asked him "If you have the plug don't you think we should put it in". Just a little boat we could pull up onto shore but I never let him forget it. :)

Ya especially when the leaves are falling and/or the skiters are having a last of the warm weather fling.

Re: Is the plug out?

I had a guy working for me at the marina that had it totaly backwards and never did get it right. He never took the plug out when he pulled a boat and very seldom put one in when he launched one. I finally quit asking and just went and did it myself.

I think he went on to become a radio disc jocky or a rocket scientist.
