Is the trim position sensor adjustable?

2007 Alpha 1, my in dash trim gauge moves very little between trim full in/down and "trailer" position. After the gauge is buried past full in, the lower unit will move down much more. When cruising on plane and trimmed up properly the gauge still reads full down/in. This makes it pretty much useless you're beaching or trailering and are raising it to full out/up. The boat is new and I'm going to call the dealer on this, but thought I'd ask here as well.

Thanks.

Yes, you can adjust it by loosening the two screws, and rotating it slightly.

If it's WAY off, you may need to remove the screws enough that you can pull the sensor out, and rotate it a tooth or two in the hinge pins.

It's also possible that you just have bad wiring causing too much resistance to allow a proper reading. That wiring is exposed to water, and tends to rot very quickly, as compared to the other wiring that gets to stay dry most of the time.

Yes it is adjustable...............or at least the one on my 96' Alpha 1 is.....................and the dealer should be able to correct it straight away.

As others have posted, yes it's adjustable by loosening the bolts and turning it) but it shouldn't have to be adjusted on a new boat.

That said (and I've replaced one), the gauge isn't that much use while operating the boat even if it's adjusted correctly.

Tell the dealer to fix it.

Re: Is the trim position sensor adjustable?

Just got off the phone with the service manager. He said they'd take a look at it and the could probably get a little adjustment out of it, but the gauge should not be relied upon for out drive position. I should only use the "feel" method for setting trim. This is my 1st boat.

I recommend getting a service manual asap. Your gonna need it. It'll tell you how to do most everything you'll need to know, especially if this is the first.

I don't really rely on my trim gage, but it is annoying when it's not functioning properly. It's easy enough to adjust so it shows full down when the outdrive is trimmed down. On my '95 Alpha One, its range is off. Even with the outdrive all the way up for trailering, it only shows about 3/4 up. Wires and everything looked clean, but I may have to take a closer look.
