Is the vortec 4.3 the same short block as the early non-vortec?

I know theres a balance shaft after like 1992, I have a 1993 with a cracked block but I found a great deal on a 4.3 vortec from a 2007 truck. I want to know if I swap non-vortec marine heads and a marine camshaft is everything else the same or close enough?

welcome aboard.

no.

suggest if you want to stay with your 93-95 stuff, you do that, or you upgrade to vortec heads and use the 2007 long-block and find the appropriate front accessory drives. you will need a vortec intake manifold.

No reason to keep the non vortec heads, everything's possible with time and money. There will be headaches which will be dependent on the particulars of your setup

I have a morphodite '92 with Vortec heads. Has no balance shaft and no mechanical fuel pump. I used v-belt accessories and a Performa intake. Worked out great. Only hard part in maintaining it is to remember there is no such thing as a complete gasket set. Have to purchase upper and lower set separately. The results were very satisfactory but takes some figuring and purchases to make happen.

Just curious Rick were you able to use the pushrods from the pre Vortec or the Vortec? The Vortec heads usually come with non-adjustable rockers correct? When I did my top end overhaul, I thought of doing what you did but wasn't sure of the changes needed so just went back with the pre-Vortec heads. I do prefer the adjustable valve train.

Some of the vortecs had adjustable rockers I'm pretty sure. Mine didn't, and I don't miss it.

Machine shop supplied new pushrods.
