Is there a filter inside the fuel pump?

Hey folks.

Been lurkin' for a while, first post.

Working on a 1983 Mercruiser 4 cyl, 3.0. Having some fuel issues, and am rebuilding the carb now.

My question is...does the fuel pump have a filter inside it that I need to change. If it does, I'm sure it's still got the OE filter in it.

I'm gonna try to post a pic of the style of fuel pump I have so you can see which pump I'm dealing with. It looks very much like there could be a filter under that bowl that is held on top with straps.

Thanks in advance for the help....and thanks retroactively for all the knowledge you've already shared to a lurker.

yes, there is a filter in the bowl on the top side of the pump

remove the safety wire, loosen the bolt, rotate the clamp off and remove the bowl

replace the filter and gasket - re-install, tighten bolt and install new safety wire

Thank ya Dubs.

I figured there was one there, by the looks of the pump. I'll pick one up and replace it while I'm workin' on the Carb.

'Preciate it again.
