Is there a quick and dirty cable adjustment

My neighbor and I swapped out a newer (1996)50hp Merc for a 1986 90hp Merc. I kept the same controls and everything works except for one little problem. In neutral the prop spins, and although I haven't decided to reach out and touch it, it spins with enough authority to assume that it is slightly in gear. All the local boatyards are too busy to get me in for about two weeks, and this is almost prime blackfishing season. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Is there a quick and dirty cable adjustment

If the prop spins around in neutral while the motor is running on a flusher, that is the "drag" from the gearcase oil between the shaft and fwd. gear. This is more pronounced in cool weather due to the heavy viscosity of Merc L/U oil.

This is assuming that you can easily turn the prop in neutral without any "clicking" noise when the motor is shut off.
