i replaced the fuel filter last year when i winterized the boat. I checked for clogged fuel lines n clean out the fuel tank i took of the fuel pump remove the fuel out line n push on the fuel pump rod n i got a couple of squirts of fuel out im no mechanic but i don't think it was sufficient fuel to start the engine. Before purchase a new pump i was wondering if there was any tricks to test these pumps the engine is 120hp omc 1977

You can get an inline fuel pressure gauge from any autoparts store OR you can just disconnect the fuel line at the carb and crank over the engine. Careful that you do not allow the gas to splash on everything. Mechanical fuel pumps usually develop between 3 and 7 lbs.

Ayuh,.... The motor regularly does that several Thousand Times a Minute,....

Like Boomer says, yer lookin' for 4 to 6 psi, 'n good flow,...

A redneck flow test is divertin' the output line into a jug,..
It'll fill a pint jar fairly Quick...

is the only way to prime the pump to keep turning the key.

I have a glass syringe (w/o needle) in the glove box. It is great for squirting a bit of gas down the shoot.
