Hello
I am still looking for an upgrade to my 1991 four winns bow rider. My ? is there an average amount of time that a a bow rider should/can have per year ? Example say a 8 year old boat or a 2005 model year with 200 hours = 25 hr a year average. I see a lot of sellers claim (low hours) Is there an industry standard?

Autos seem to be 12,000 miles a year equals average.

Unlimited depending upon care, You can kill a horse prematurely if you ride it hard and put it up wet.

Hi. Based on previous threads on this question the "average" appears to be in the 40 to 50 hours per year range.

Absolutly NO specific hours.

hour meter was changed or disconnected by some slick person.

500 hours at never more than 3000 rpms, beats any jerk doing 10 hours jumping waves at full speeds

Next question.

Yes, there's some studies indicating that the average recreational/fishing boaters make 50hrs a year but, as said, from a buyers perspective, it meant absolutely nothing, at all.

Condition, maintenance, inspection and survey is everything.

The other posters pretty well covered it but since you brought up a 2005 boat, which was the same year as my Maxum before I sold it in September, I'll throw in my $.02 since the question of hours came up and me being asked by buyers who never owned a boat just what "others" told them.

Mine had about 270 hours and that's in SoCal which we boat here year round (yes, we do have Christmas boat parade of light shows that people love to come watch) and was a totally SALT water boat by the PO and myself. That roughly means 35 hours per year in a 365 day area; seems to be what I would call "low" for this area.

Yet guys, who've never owned a boat, would tell me that's a lot of hours...bla bla bla.

I would try and nicely explain that it really isn't for our part of the country and I then turned it around on them and asked them: "..how do you REALLY know these other boats guys tell you have been in 'fresh water only' is trued but actually they are just saying that since you have no way to prove them wrong and that the 125 hours is really acurate since the hour meter could have been unplugged or replaced and without putting the engine on a scan tool, you'll never know the real hours? Base you decision on condition and maintenance."
About all they could respond with was "well, guess I really don't know now that you've explained it like that and appreciate you're honesty about the Maxum being a salt water boat and true hours".

Moral of the story: get a mechanical survey done that includes a run on a scan tool and go from there along with a check of the hull and operation of the various systems.
