Is there something wrong with my new trolling motor?

I've used a 65 lb thrust 24 volt powerdrive for years and got sick of the boat spinning in circles while landing a fish. So I bought a 55 lb thrust 12 volt autopilot.

Going from 65 lb thrust to 55 lb thrust is roughly a 15% decrease in power. However, everything that I do with the 55 lb thrust motor takes about double the setting from 1-10. If I would be running a 30% with the 65 it would take 60% with the 55.

Max speed with the 65 lb thrust was also 2.8 miles per hour and the max speed with the 55 is 2 miles per hour. A lot more than a 15% difference.

What do you think? Something wrong with the new motor?

THe boat is a 1986 160 ss starcraft with a 75 hp merc.

I doubt there is anything wrong with your new motor. Those speed setting are just for reference and are not exact. I have a 70 and a 55 and the prop is smaller on the 55

I think your motor is runnning fine, CK.

The relationship between thrust and speed is not linear.
