The model is 40053A. The serial is C74725. It's a 1970 Evinrude 40 hp....I was on Ebay and someone was selling a carberator with my model number and they described it as a big twin...I am not sure if mine is and what if any the benefits of it are . I was told by the guy who sold me the engine that it wasnt . Any ideas? Secondly if anyone can direct me to a restored or original picture of my engine i would really appreciate it. I am trying to get a peak at what an original engine cowl would look like.

When Evinrude came out with the in-line 25hp motor in 1951, they called it a "Big Twin". It was redesigned in 1955 and called a "Big Twin". It became 30hp in 1956, 35hp in 1957, 40hp in 1960.....All "Big Twins". There were also deluxe models called "Lark". Still a basic Big Twin. Eventually, the name was dropped when it became 50hp in the late 1970's.

EDIT: Your 40053 is a 1970 "Big Twin Electric".

Yeah, I forgot. They became Ski Twins and Norsemen in the 1970's. Still "Big Twins" to me.

Actually, there were "Big Twins" way back in the 1920's. Completely unrelated, they were horizontally opposed, cast iron cylinders. When Evinrude creates a name they stay with it forever. Look how long Chevy kept the "Impala". Or a Ford Mustang or F-series pickup.

I came across a 'big twin' during this past summer that was a 33 hp model. any idea what year that was? The cowling was that kinda sideways v shape like the 1968 lark VIII 40 hp I used to own except it was blue and white and didn't have the aluminum metal trim mine had
