Is this a direct hose connection for cooling?

I'm about to change the engine oil on my 2005 Volvo 5.0GL, and was planning to just hook up the muffs for cooling. But I noticed a tube coming up on the left side of the engine that has a male hose connect on top, and the cap has a picture that seems to indicate that it's for the cooling system.

Can someone tell me if that is intended to just hook a hose up to that will basically do the same thing as muffs while running the engine out of water. Or is that used for something else, like flushing? Thanks

Ayuh,... I don't do Volvos, so this ain't gospel,...

It Could be a flush fitting on your Volvo, it's raw waterpump is motor mounted, rather than drive mounted...
You probably are lookin' at the fitting you need,...

But I caution, in that Merc uses a Male Hose Fitting for draining the motor's oil out...
So I guess it's possibly a direct line to the bottom of the Oil Pan...
Merc usually paints 'em yellow...

sorry, mispoke on the connection type. It's a female connection, so should accept the male end of a garden hose.

Here are a few pics. After taking a closer look, it definitely connects into the cooling system. In the third pic, it's the small hose coming down from the top that connects into the larger one and feeds over to the impeller housing.

Just want to be sure that this can be used as the cooling source while out of water though. Any reassurance is appreciated.
