Not a good deal, but it is probably the going rate. 75 per hour plus he has estimated some time in case there are any issues. For 150, he should also provide some sort of gurantee that what he does will work.

Is this what you asked him to do or is there a specific problem that you THINK the carbs are responsible for. Asking him to fix the engine problem is one thing. Asking him to clean and tune the carbs is another. While he may do that just fine, it may not actually be the cause of the problem.

Beings I was charged $392 last fall to have my 3 carbs rebuild and plugs changed last year, I would consider that a good deal!

I would ask him to give you a qoute first before he does anything, let him tell you that it's just your carbs. Just my .02 worth, good luck. BTW 2 hours labor to adjust your carbs is a fair price.

Clean or rebuild? Is tuning in the tank or on the actual water? If it's not on the water, you may have to be tinkering afterwards anyways.

I don't understand the clean/rebuild thing. You've got to take 'em all apart and put them back together to clean it. Does clean mean no new gaskets vs. new gaskets with the rebuild? Just curious.
My opinion: Learn to clean the carbs yourself. It's easy and you could likely have the job done in the time it takes to deliver and retrieve your boat from the mechanic.
I agree that $150 is not bad. It takes time to remove and reinstall the carbs along with rebuilding them.
Good luck,

well i have cleaned them but i geuss i didnt do a good enough job i saw a post a wile back from a guy who had the same motor with the same problem he had cleaned them and still couldnt get it running right and he pulled them off and really went through it good and finally got it right but i dont have time to spend a whole day working on the carbs because most weekends im at the motocross track and during the week im in school or working. i would just like to get it fixed so the next free time i have i can just hookup and go to the lake.
