Is this a good deal??

I have been looking for a good boat to get the family introduced to boating. I wanted something to ski and tube behind. Luck would have it that a boat showed up a block from my house 2 days ago! It's a 1991 Stingray 17.5 ft. with a 3.0 merc. motor. It comes on a loadright single axle trailer. The boat is in great shape for the age. It has a little haze on the hull but no soft spots. The upholstery is very good with no rips or tears. It was garage kept up until this owner bought it. (2nd owner). The motor looks very clean and we did start it in the driveway. It had been winterized until then. All gauges and lights work. The hour meter shows 175. The guy is asking $2500.00 firm for the boat and trailer and he does have the title for both. One other thing, it has a full tank of gas with fuel stabilizer in it but he did not use the boat last summer. How should I deal with this if I do buy this boat. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Sounds like a good find. Whatever price you agree on, make it dependent on a water test as a minimum, and preferably a test on the water with a mechanic.

A boat can run pretty good on the muffs and then struggle under load, showing more problems.

Its got a small tank, if it checks out get it out and run it, then top off and repeat.

Re: Is this a good deal??

Thanks for the info. I have to pass this boat everyday on my way to work and it is mine for the taking depending on the water test. Unfortunately we can't do it until next weekend:( I want to be on the water tomorrow, but I guess I will just have to be patient!
