:confused::confused::confused:

I'm looking to replace my Force 120 :mad: on my Bayliner Capri 17 ft. Would this have enough power for general riveer boating and tubing?? What kinda speed can I expect??

GBOverkill,
If I was you I would buy at least a 90 horsepower Johnson/Evinrude for that 17 foot Bayliner you have. I think the 55 horsepower might be a little under powered for your Bayliner. Plus 90 horsepower is perfect for pulling skiers/tubers in my honest opinion. The 55 horsepower probably a good motor might not give you all the power you need especially for adult size skiers/tubers. Let us know what you decide to do. :)

And one more thing, I noticed after reading again it doen't have power tilt and trim taht is a must for pulling skiers not too much for tubers though so for my opinion get a 90 horsepower with power tilt and trim. Look on Craigs list or Ebay and you can pick them up pretty cheap a good used one that is. Let us know.:)

Sorry to keep adding to this but I was thinking some more and I would go no bare bones less than maybe a 70 horsepower 2 stroke with power tilt and trim. Let us know.

You need at least 90HP with PT&T on that boat.

You will probably be unhappy with less than 120HP.

The 1978 55 horse is a 2 cylinder.That puts a lot power on a 2 banger.They are good blocks but my feeling is that anything over 50 horse from those blocks ,that were originally developed for 35 horse engines, is asking for trouble.
If you want to push a bilge liner with an outboard on steroids you are really asking for trouble.

I agree may work for awhile, but that little motor would be worked till it died.

I have a 1977 55 horse on my 16 foot starcraft aluminum boat. Adequate is the best descriptor I can come up with as far as the power goes. The motor I have runs excellent starts almost every time with a bump on the key, idles all day with out a miss. Your boat is bigger, heavier, deeper v so I would have to say leave the motor for someone with a smaller boat and look for a bigger motor.

I have not idea what to use but I will give this little input. I have a 16' Bayliner that has a Yamaha 85 on it and it does awsome. I could not imagine it with a smaller motor, nor a bigger boat with the same or smaller. I see that a lot of them are saying 90 or bigger, and I would have to agree, a 90 or bigger would be the way to go. And no PT&T would not be the way to go. I pull a few wakeboarders with mine and would hate to not have the PT&T on the boat. BUT, like I said before, I dont know much but I thought I would give you my adivse if it helps. Happy hunting.

I think that is the twin looper developed as a 50, rolmops. OMC never made a cross scavenged 2 cylinder 55, developed as a 35 or anything else.
