I am looking to upgrade to a newer pontoon and there is a 2006 22' Bennington 2275RL with a 60hp 4 stroke for sale in my area (Indianapolis). It has only about 80 hours on it, a stereo, detachable face CD, digital depth finder, bimini top, and changing area. They are asking 19,000. It is in excellent condition. Do you think that is a reasonable price? I was thinking more around 15K.

In today's market and at the end of the boating season, 15 would be tops if a trailer is included. A 60 is kinda small for a 22 footer so I would be thinking more like 10 to 12.

Re: Is this a good price?

I'd side with Eglide on this one. I have a 60 on my 20' and I would consider it a minimum size. Benny is top of the line, but it is 4+ years old and it is season end. $15K would be above my initial offer and a trailer would be a must. If it is in premium condition, you may consider an offer later nearer to $15k. Your location is also a factor. Prices vary from place to place. Are you in Chicago or from there?

I think it is a fair price. Bennington's are great boats and 2006 in not old. I have never seen any Benny's for 15k for that year.

Just because the work climate is slow doesn't mean that people are going to give things away. Offer him 16k and see what they say, you can always go up.

Re: Is this a good price?

Thanks for the input....I am actually in the Indianapolis area (I was born in Chi town). There is another boat that is being advertised in the area that is comprable only a 2007 with a 75 hp Yamaha. They are asking 16K. Don't know what condition it is in. I plan on running by this afternoon to look at it.

That sounds more like it. Those Bennies really are top notch, but $19K is a lot of scratch for that other rig. Indiana, huh? Seems like there might be a party barge or two manufactured over in Elkhart.;) That works in your favor with regard to supply and demand.

Re: Is this a good price?

Went to see the 2nd Bennington at a nearby marina. My error it is a 2006, but with a 2007 Yamaha 75 hp 4 stroke. It was NICE....the asking price is 15,999 without a trailer. They are telling me that that is about 400 lower than book value. Hmmmm I still think 14k to 15k would be better. Any thoughts? :D

 I hate it when a seller says that. It may be the case, but comps have a lot more to do with boat values than the various pricing services available to the general public. I'd say if you really like the boat and are in a position to buy now take it for an extended water test and perform your due diligence. If you still think it will work for you make them an offer. The worst they can do is say no. If they don't like your offer, maybe you could offer them their price if they throw in a trailer (assuming you need one). Since they keep it at a marina they may have an eaiser time finding an affordable one to sweeten the deal. If they don't like that idea, you could offer them a little more than their price, maybe $500, to kind of gauge their desire to move the boat. It's really just a dance. In the end it comes down to how badly the seller wants to move the boat and how badly you want to own it. That's the real value determinant. The book is just a starting point. As long as your offers are not insulting, and based on what you expect to pay I don't think they are, just keep looking (and enjoying the experience) until you find what you want for what you want to pay. Maybe you've found it, maybe not. Only one way to find out.;)

Re: Is this a good price?

Incoop has given some great advice.

IMHO, if they are asking 16, they'll take 15 for sure and probably less.

I would start at 12 and not go over 14.5.

Again, IMHO...

At the end of July 2009 I bought a 2007 Starcraft 24 ft. that is 106 inches wide. It came with a Bimity top, guages ,very large toons, changing room, 90 HP Mercury two stroke engine.Three door and a boarding ladder. The motor has a extended warrenty good until 2012 .The dealer sold it to the customer new and they serviced it yearly .The motor only had twenty hours on it. It was keep on a boat lift when not in Use. They were asking $13,800 for it .I had them throw in a 2006 5 starr trailer with tandem wheels and surge barkes on the front wheels for$15000,00 the boat can carry 16 people.
