I have a 1978 Evinrude 35HP. I'm wanting to buy a boat for it. From the motor bottom where the shaft starts to the bottom of the fin is 31" It is 17 inches to the horizontal fin above the prop and 14 inches from that fin to the vertical one. I also want to know what inch transom I'll need on a new boat to fit the motor correctly. I want a tunnel hull.
Thanks

Let's put this in Non-Repair Outboard, BFD. I will move it for you.

Sounds like a short shaft to me. Measure from the underside of the clamp where it sits on the transom to the horizontal fin above the prop. That is called the anti-ventilation plate. Should be about 15" for a short shaft, 20" for long shaft.

You wrote "It is 17 inches to the horizontal fin above the prop" Re-wording that, I suppose you are saying 17" from the bottom of the cowling to the anti-cavitation plate. That would have to be a short shaft.
