I have an 18 Hp Evinrude - early 70s that a fishing buddy of mine gave me. He brought over and layed it in the floor of my shop while I wasn't there. When I went out to the shop there was a small pubble of green oil on the floor around the prop. I assume this is oil from the lower unit, but I can't tell where the oil is leaking from. Any suggestions.... anything I need to check before I put this motor in the water and give it a try?

He told me he had the motor checked out last year and every thing was fine, but it has not been in the water since....

Thanks,
Grizz

Well it is a simple matter to crack the lower unit drain plug loose a bit and get a few drops of oil to compare with what you saw. Probably different, and if it is, not to worry. I might caution that the phillips head screw is NOT the drain screw, so hands off of it.
