Remove the side covers and see if you can swap them, the control itself does not know port or starboard, just the side covers.

Yes, it is just the cover plates. Make sure it is the correct push button switch. Your motor has electric clutches. Not the same switch as Hydro-Electric shift. But the control and switch looks the same.

I knew there were two. I don't have it here. How do I tell?

Can't really tell, they both look alike. You need to test it with some sort of a continuity tester, be it a light or multimeter.

Thre are three wire terminals, market variously. One of them will be the common or battery terminal. Once you identify that one, test continuity to the others. For your motor it needs to be:

Forward gear = continuity to green wire terminal (however it is marked)
Neutral = no continuity to either terminal
Reverse gear = continuity to blue wire terminal (however marked)

Hydro-Electric is as follows:
Forward gear = no continuity to either terminal
Neutral = continuity to green wire terminal
Reverse gear = continuity to BOTH blue and green wires.

If you put a Hydro-Electric switch in your motor, it will break a clutch spring or twist off the drive shaft the first time you attempt to put it in reverse (while running). So to be on the safe side try it while NOT running first.
