Have a '77 Evinrude 35 which is in excellent condition, looks like this one:

Have a chance to pick up this boat for $900 firm price, without a motor.

""14' larson fish/ski.2-back to back seats, and 2-pedestal fishing seats.post guide-ons, She has no leaks, and the treated floor is only 4 years old.""

Question:
Would the 35 hp be enough to plane out the boat with 2-3 people in it?

I believe the 35 will plane the boat but I wouldn't expect anymore than that. It will probably also require WOT or real close to maintain the plain. In short it's going to be to small. I believe that boat would need a 50 to 70 hp motor to perform well.

I agree with rp I have a 16' runabout (not very haevy), with an old 70hp it will run about 30 mph and jumps on top, it will prob. be okay with just you in the boat but like rp says you will have to run it hard............IMO

I had a 14' fiberglass boat boat a few years ago with a 50 hp..it would top out at 28mph and get on plane"ok" with 2 people.. but i would always be near WOT..it burnt alot of fuel..i would look for atleast a 50 hp for that boat.. but since you already have a 35, you can always use that for now and upgrade in the future..

I have to agree that the 35 will be straining it's milk pushing that boat with people aboard. 50 smallest I would put on it.

back in the old days they were sold with 35's-50's. were under powered to todays standards. looks like a great little boat. they are heavier than they look.

The 35 would plane better with no-one aboard, which would put you in a very awkward position if your timing was off at all!

I would think a 65 would be a good motor for that boat, or perhaps you could get another 35 and have "twins"

You guys are too funny. Twin 35's would be nice though.

OK, a little more info.
Actually, I already have 2 35 Evinrudes, one tiller, one remote.
( I just grabbed that photo off the web, mine is spotless)
My remote 35 is mounted on a a 380# Alumacraft, and it runs real well, topping out at 33 mph.

I am already buying the 2001 Merc 50 hp in the photo above, to put on the Alumacraft, it will be a fun ride. So I will have the 35 to sell.

The seller has now offered the boat and trailer to me, for $900.

It was just a thought, to buy the boat and mount the 35 on it and sell it, IF it would be enough power.

I guess I will pass on the boat, and just sell my 35 by itself.

I would HATE to create an underpowered boat, and have it get passed from one unsatisfied owner to the next. There are enough underpowered boats in this world.

thanks guys.
