paboater,
I don't know about this particular unit but I know several friends & fishermen that were not very pleased with their Hummingbirds period. I've never owned a Garmin but hear they're good units. I personally use Lowrance and feel like you would have a better unit and be better satisfied in the long run with a Lowrance/Eagle or Garmin in the price range you're considering.
JD

I just instaled one, haven't had time to try it out much. If you do buy one, make sure you check to make sure they send you the right template. Mine had a template for another model, now I have an extra hole in my transome. I did get free hat from them....

Jim

Re: Is this fishfinder any good?

Can't vouch for all the Birds, but mine has worked great since I've had it(4 Years). I know there are better ones with better resolution and all that, but this thing won't quit and it picks up very well. I can drop a small jig under the transducer and bring it up and down and see it plain as day. Never loses bottom lock at any speed and gives a good view of what's under me when I set it manually or even in the Auto mode. Easy to use and it works! That's all I need.... I know alot of people slam them, but what works, works!!

BTW-I do have an Eagle on my other boat and it works great, also. Never misses a beat either..
