Evening Gurus,
79 Mercruiser 470, MC1 out drive - Aristocraft 9teen.
Here is a short sequence: Cruised for 30 min at 2500-3000 rpm without any issues engine was running great. Restarted after an hour - ran great about 20 min. Stopped for 10 minutes, restarted fine, ran fine another 20 minutes. Stopped for about an hour. Engine started fine, ran for 40 seconds under acceleration, died. After lots of cranking started again but died 20 seconds later , seemed to run real rough. Can not be restarted again. Paddled back to shore. More cranking produced no results.
Moving throttle forward to activate accelerator pump, no squirt... so I undo the bolt on the fuel filter on top of fuel pump - bone dry..... My diagnosis - failed pump or clogged pickup.... tank is almost full aluminum.... so we finally reached the ramp and fished her out of the water. That was Saturday.
Today I decided to go and troubleshoot if it is pump or fuel pickup. Put the mufs on and she cranks up right away, like all this stuff the day before never happened.....
So what say you? Fuel pump failing? Or I am loosing my mind.
