Is this motor any good???

I'm looking at a boat with a Johnson Tracker GT150 motor on it. I don't know much about these motors ,are they any good? Are they known to have any problems? Thanks Guys!!!

any motor is good !!! but the compresson is a sure way to tell if it still has life in it

In theory yes, but I stay far away from those Forces. Have not heard many good things about them!

The GT/XP models have special performance improvements from the factory. They run the larger 175 carbs and will put out 10% more hp than the engine says, around 165. Special heads, stiff lower engine mounts, louvered cowl, special decals and probably the 35 amp alternator are all part of the package. If it has good compression, it should be a solid runner. I'd look for compression in the 95-100 range. Also, do a presure, vacuum test on the lower to make sure it doesn't leak water. Normal maint on this would be water pump impeller and check the thermostats for proper temps.
