Obviously it is missing.....just noticed it after a trip home the other day (thankfully not far). Is this easy to replace/repair myself?

thanks so much.

Looks like just the cap is missing. You should be able to get a replacement at anyplace that sells trailer parts. Just measure the inside diameter of where it fits. It goes back on with some taps of a hammer, prefereably a non-metallic one.

That said, it looks to me like some maintenance is needed on your rig. At a minimum, I'd pull those wheels off, clean them up and paint them. I'd also inspect and pack your wheel bearings, replacing any bearings that are bad. Way too much rust there...enough that you may have problems getting the lug nuts off without busting something.

That much rust on your wheels and lugs isn't a good thing. Left that way to get worse, and you may be looking at much larger problems down the road.

While you're at it, give your trailer a good inspection as well. Looks to me like you're in salt water with it. Check for rust on the trailer and for weak spots caused by it. Again, a good cleanup and repainting is probably in order.

Funky trailers wreck boats way too often. Regular maintenance is needed, especially if salt water is involved.

Re: Is this my Hub?

Before taking it to your shop I would remove your hub nut and pull the outer bearing. After the bearing is out you could pack the hub with grease then put it back together and don?t forget the dust cap. If the outer bearing is still good chances are the back bearing will be fine for a short trip. I wouldn?t tow it far and by the looks of it I would change my hubs and bearings along with cleaning everything up. Also get a spare set of bearings and seals for emergencies.

I personally wouldn't think of installing bearing buddies on those hubs as they very likely will leak and even more likely will not stay in place and be lost. As a minimum I would remove the spindle nut, pull the wheel and hub assembly and see what you have. I suspect the spindles on this trailer are as rusty as the hub. If by chance the spindles are still ok, I would replace the entire hub and bearing assembly which are dirt cheap at any auto or farm store, or any store that sells boating supplies. Then install bearing buddies.

Thanks guys, I actually have bearing buddies (had) but it took that with it to! I do need some work, for sure. I was hoping to wait until the end of the season, but looks like I have to do it now. I appreciate all the help.
