I have worked for the United States Postal Service for 5 years. I love my job and I like most of the people I work with. That being said I thought it would be kinda cool to name my boat "Gone Postal", i told my post master this and she thinks it is a bad idea as it give a bad reputation to the postal service but I'm still thinking it would be a funny and cool name. What do you think?

Our boat was named PMS, Pat, Mark, Scott. Only time it was interesting was when we called for assistance for another boater while on Lake Mojave. Ranger refused to say name simply said "vessel requesting assistance" with a chuckle. Other than that pretty funny. Can only imagine the office getting that call, from a 15 year old kid none the less.

My name is David but it did not fit the name so we left it off :D

I love it. Your boss is just towing the party line for some reason. What else is new, a boss with no sense of humor. One of my old bosses saw no humor whatsoever in the movie Officespace. This guy had a sense of humor as dry as Death Valley.

I'd also think about naming it Going Postal.

Ok i'll be the devil's advocate.

I love it and think it's catchy.

However I will give you a TRUE piece of advise.

I hope nothing happens while you are operating your boat. If there a incident where you are implicated in a wrongful action a smart lawyer WILL use the name of your boat against you. Even though it has nothing to do with the implied meaning. There have been a few instances that the name of the boat was put into evidence implying the name of the boat was a extension of the inner mentality of the owner of the boat.

I know this sounds so far off the wall but it has happened. In this day and age everything is examined and scrutinised. You just can't be yourself anymore.

My boats have never had names. This is one of many reasons why.

Re: Is this name inappropriate?

anyone who thinks a boat name is a literal meaning need to settle.

im sure there is far worse.

what about the people who name their boats after pirate ships? are people going to assume that they are pirates?

many words have multiple meanings. maybe you just like usps way more than ups or fedex. so youve gone postal?

Bass Tracker, can you cite or link to an example of this actually happening? Sorry, but this just has an "urban legend" flavor to it...

Re: Is this name inappropriate?

i think bass tracker might be onto something. i also think it might attract more water patrol attention than some other name that didn't insinuate a violent act... however, i think it's your boat. you name it what you want.
You just can't be yourself anymore.
that's a sad statement but likely more true than i'd like it to be... :( that said, i still ain't gettin a haircut...

Re: Is this name inappropriate?

I agree, it's your boat. Give it a name with relevance to you. "Gone" is past tense, so have at it. "Going" might be taken the wrong way by someone without a life.:D

Re: Is this name inappropriate?

I think we are in a terrible state if someone cannot name their boat some silly name out of fear of critisism and/or litigation.

Not knowing me I understand your statement and I can site.

A boater ran over a 14' or so boat with a fairly high-powered cigarette boat.
2 people killed at night. NO lights on the little boat. hi speed on the big boat.

Lawyer sited the boats name as a underlying personality of the operator during the trial.

this happened in my state in 2007.

If the name is not vulger or offensive in language i agree he should be able to name it whatever he likes. I just wanted to put some info out that i think he should be aware of.

NAH !
Go ahead and name her whatever you want. If we all were afraid of litigation, nobody would get behind the wheel of a car.
If you do become a party to a lawsuit, that's what spray paint is for.
