I have a 1978 evinrude 175 v6 90 degree serial 175840c which ran hot on starboard bank at some point in past. I have working heat sensor alarms one on each side which alarm (alarm only) with extreme heat.

I want to monitor head surface temp on each bank of cylinders via two seperate senders and gauges. Also, I will monitor water pressure. Am I crazy for wanting to monitor this closely the temp on each bank. Is this overkill.

Thanks

dc in ms

it might be overkill, but if it will make you feel more comfortable, i say go for it.

Lots of folks do that. Race guys monitor cooling temp and combustion temp on each side. We've even seen a set up with one cooling temp gauge and a switch to monitor one side then the other. Seems like a lot time devoted to flipping a switch all day long. Personally I rely more on the audible system but I do have a gauge.

Yeah I thought of saving a little money and flipping a switch too but decided might as well go ahead and put in two systems....Thanks for the comments.

dc in ms

I would be curious to know to hear what the difference in temp are? I know my V4 85hp definatly runs alittle hotter on one side. I know this is not uncommon. Let us know...as for over kill, it depends do you want to spend your time monitering or trying to solve or even out the problem? After the extreme heat up did you do a cylinder inpection? Compression check? Head Gasket replacement? I say do the duel temp guages but at the same time do some poking and proding to find out why it is running so hot. Just a thought!
