Is this part important for any purpose other than screening out large debris. Say increasing pre ventri vacuum to effect fuel delivery

Part #98

http://www.boats.net/parts/search/B...70/CARBURETOR GROUP ELECTRIC SHIFT/parts.html

I misplaced mine and my motor wants to run best on 1/4 choke after a complete rebuild the same day (im 95% sure I counted all the parts of the mud wasp i removed)but being 25$ plus shipping and not an insect expert i would rather take the carb off again and clean the oriface or main jet than bet on the part i lost.

Opinions?

Any part you find on a motor has a purpose. That's my thought anyhow. :D

your motor isnt designed to run a 1/4 choke. It is obviously running lean if you have to do this. Is $ 25.00 worth taking chance on ruining a fresh build? Running lean is no "BUENO" Most parts installed are not for looks, they serve a purpose.
Post back results.

Agree, if it wasn't imporatant they wouldn't have put it on the engine.

It is a chunk stopper to keep junk from being ingested. It probably is not the reason for your motor running lean. That probably is due to crud in the high speed jet (orifice plug)

Yes they do Many serve several purposes, I want confirmation that it is more than "just a debris screen" for example my snowmobile will run lean if the air box is off so i'd have to re jet richer so does it serve the air box function lower vacuum in the ventri = less fuel delivered?
