No, that's the pivot screw. Do not remove. It should be a slotted screw like I have below. Maybe it's under that crud, or below the bullet nose?

Asking that particular question, and waiting for an answer before removing that pivot bolt just saved you a headache and a half!

Ask first.....even if you look stupid....that's my motto lol

I should have cleaned the lower when i did the inside of the boat but too many old styles got me and I had to call it a day!

Today is my friday so carb cleaning, lower fluid, impeller, and might try to have her out saturday......after a thorough tank running first...then back to work sunday......

Btw, this place is better than the library lol.....thank god I have internet on my phone too!

You might be taking the bottom end of the G/C appart to get it back in properly. It's not old style, It's "old swill". LOL.

Apparently chuck norris comes out and roundhouse kicks you between the eyes.....that's what the manual says at least.

You must have the Seloc manual. The OEM Manual says its Jack Bauer

If I wrote it, it'd be a Freddie Krueger/Hannibal Lecter combo!

Seriously, I think I removed that screw on one of my lower units, but I put it right back in because oil shot out. I don't want to break my engine when I go to run it now...

You won't break your engine. Worst case, it will not shift into gear anymore and you will need to completely dismantle the gearcase to repair it. If nothing moved and you put it right back in, chances are you will be OK. Just try to shift the gears to find out. Good luck.

Re: Is this the drain plug?

It is not all that bad to remove it.. nothing really fall out that cannot be be relocated with a little shift handle movement. Not a big deal.. absent minded me have done it a couple times and I never had to remove the bottom end.
Just my two cents worth.... best to leave it in however and drain with the other plugs removed.

If the pivot was removed, the washer should be replaced since it was disrupted to prevent LU leaking at the very least.
