I have a 1988 2.5 Evinrude. I bought it for $40.00 bucks, not running and frozen up. I got it freed up thanks to some of you and it has helped me a lot. I got it running in a 30 gallon garbage can, but did'nt think to put on some kind of cover over the open part of the can. So when it started in a matter of seconds it blew half the water out of the can, so I shut it down with the kill switch. I refilled the can and tryed to start it again but it would'nt start. I checked for spark, both clys ok, I started smelling gas and saw it coming out the front of the bottom of the motor, so I stoped. Know I have it down in my small basement shop. I removed the covers and found fuel was leaking from the primer nipple that gos into the top of the carb. I also found a ring of fuel around the float bowl gasket. So I took it off and in doing so broke the plastic fuel shut off valve connection link that is a continuous part of the fuel shut off valve itself. I ordered the new shut off valve for around $7.00 and it will be in somtime next week. I felt I needed to tell the hole sad story to all of you who have had similiar problems. I called my motor every word in the book and even damed myself for not being more gentil with it , but none of the threats work. Now with it behind me I would like your imputs on weither I sould keep on going and make the repairs or just say **** ++ and save up for a new one. Are these little motors worth saving? and are they very reliable ? Thanks ,Dan Metz.
