Is Tranny going out? 3.0L Dodge

'88 Dodge Mini-Ram Van (same as caravan)<br />3.0L Smoker with 3 speed tranny used in all the older caravans.<br />217,000 Miles....<br /><br />This last week or so, when taking off, it will rev up for a second, feels like it's slipping.<br /><br />Question.... Sitting on a time Bomb?

Yep, jump quick before she blows!! <br /><br />Actually, it will act the same if it is low on fluid or the filter is partially plugged. You can service the trany and see how she feels after. Dosnt cost too much and you could do it yourself.

Yea the older Dodge trannys they used in the Caravan was not much and any slippage was just about the death of them.<br /><br />They just could not take it.<br /><br />You can do like LD says and service it to see if it helps, but usually when one of them slips, it toasts the clutches in them.

but with only 217,000 miles, I don't think It should be going out. Only 17 years? I'm calling Dodge and getting my money back! <br /><br />Being that you can buy these vans for about $600, I think they are now "disposable"
