Is Wallmart 2 cy oil as good as quicksilver???

This is just a curiosity, but I seem to recall a few people saying that Wallmart brand outboard oil was very comparable to the<br />Mercury Quicksilver brand. Is just just crazy voodoo thinking or is there any truth to it? I don't want to save money on oil if it is going to cost me in the long run if ya know what I mean......

Wal-Mart Super Tech is as good as you can get. My personal opinion is that it is relabeled Quicksilver.<br /><br />Red sky at night.<br />JB

Thanks, Kevlar. This board is a great outlet for a retired engineer/ wrench/ writer/ teacher/professor/consultant who might otherwise be bored when the fish aren't biting. I HAVE BEEN USING CHEVRON FOR FOUR YEARS IN MY MERC 200 H. P. HAVE CHANGED TO LUBRIMATIC FOR LAST TWO YEARS. ENGINE HAS BEEN RUNNING GREAT.HAS NEVER BEEN IN THE SHOP EVER. 1994 MODEL.

If my Merc dealer greeted me at the door with a warm smile like the guy at Walmart, then maybe I'd consider buying their oil. But until then, Walmart's oil works just fine!!! (Oh, did I mention it's just a tad bit less expensive??) Walt

I bought a new 25hp tohatsu from a mercury dealer about 8yr ago. He said that he would prefer me to use qiucksilver, but if I was going to use lubrimatic to put in in a old quicksilver container so if any thing went wrong he could say I was using a top grade oil..... The engine seemed to run fine the whole time I had it. go figure.<br />as long as it has tcw3 I would use it.<br />Its all in the marketing hype. Like ford, chevy, dodge, toyota, nissan, and any other truck out there, I have had bad and good of all of them. I say go with wal-mart oil.

I have to agree with JB. <br /> Since reading about "Supertech" brand here and on other sites, it is great. My Force retains only 50% of the carbon produced by the barnd reccommened in the shop manual!<br />Amazed? I sure am. And it looks,smells and feels like Quicksilver (haven't tasted the stuff yet).

I think back and remembered that the dealer said quicksilver . Oils are different I ve been in refineries some of the older ones are still trying
