All that work in to my 15hp to make it water tight and getting it running like a top and what happens?

It gets lifted off my boat at lunch coming back from the lake.

Here we go again.

I think this time I'll be shooting for an 8hp though. I think it would troll better at lower speeds (trout), and have plenty of oomph for saltwater and tides on the 18' tinny. What do y'all think? For backup considerations I got 5mph on the GPS with the 15 at full throttle - never planing. I'm guessing an 8hp would be just about the same, maybe a tad less.

WOW! That bites a very large one!

Option....9.9/15 four stroke? Little more weight but beautiful at low revs.

I was considering that, but then I'd be running two gas tanks. Having the one built-in with two out lines is pretty nice.

contaminated fuel is on of the major causes of main engine failure. both off the same tank both are contaminated. that guy needs to be hung from a bridge by his gonads, and stay there till the scodum rots, and the fish get to rest. if we did more of this, people would keep their hands off other people property.

I run a new tank, fuel filter, and either go through all the fuel or stabilize, or drain if it sits too long. I also run with a small spare 6gal tank just in case. If I had a VRO system I'd consider a 4-stroke. I'd just like to run all pre-mix or no pre-mix, and not mix and match. I can only imagine disaster lurking around the corner if I'm not consistent on the boat.

I'd love to find the person and go all jack bauer on 'im.

At least I got one good day of fishing on it after rebuilding EVERYTHING. It sure ran sweet. 1mph troll speed for 3 hours.

Re: It just figures

Went and looked at a 9.9 tonight. After draining about 2 cups of water out of the LU I had to tell the owner what he might be in for with repairs. And here's the crime - it's been serviced almost yearly by a shop. He had all the receipts back to '97 when he bought it. You'd think they might bother to tell him he's got blown seals on the LU. That and pouring over all the receipts I couldn't see an impeller listed anywhere.

Needless to say, I passed on the "opportunity" to rebuild another LU.

Ugh!
