I guess it's all good. New pontoon, first trip I filled the fuel tank all the way ( 31 gal ) I taken it out 5 times so far. all day trips, but not running the motor all the time. Got to chill you know. i'm breakin it in per the book, running at different RPM's and not too long at any. Well the fuel gage has moved down to just above the half mark, but the past 2 times going out it's still on half. the gage does move as I power up and down, so I assume it's working ? any ideas ?

Does it move as you are running the boat?

I took one of our company toons out and the gauge was always moving up or down slightly as the attitude of the boat change, if it won't go below half at all I would worry it wasn't working.

Could always be it has a weird shaped tank that is skinny on top and wide on the bottom so you would use the first half faster than the last half.

I would take it out a few more times and if it doesn't move you know you there is something wrong, if you got 5 trips out of the top half you should be able to get at least 4 out of the bottom half

Whenever I suspect problems with my gauge, I open the back deck cover to visually see the fuel level in my tank, if it matches what the gauge says....I'm good to go.

Keep a gas can on board with a few gallons in it until you can trust the gauge. Run it down to an eighth or a quarter (or empty if you wish). Then you will know.

Thats what I was thinking. It's like my car, it stays half full longer, then all the sudden it drops down. This may be normal with a 31 gal tank, dont know.

You might want to fill the tank up every time you take it out--for the time being. After you get the motor broken in, you can then compute the average fuel usage per hour.

Nothing's worse than running out of fas on Lake Allatoona when you're the only one out there. It could happen from now until the boating season's over.
