It lives again

I had a need for a small motor to fish a local restricted hp lake here. I had this 1978 9.9 in my shed for 20 years since my dad died. It sat unused in his cellar for 15 years before that. While in my shed, the mice had a field day with the wires. I spent a day doing repairs on them. I figured the carb was going to be a mess after sitting so long. I was wrong. You could eat from the bowl. The cork float looked brand new. I still put the new kit in. The water pump was the same great shape. The impeller was as soft and flexible as the new one was. I replaced it anyway. Changed the spark plugs, fuel lines, and the lower unit oil too. No sign of water.
I put it on the boat in a barrel of water and hooked up the fuel tank. I crossed my fingers and pulled the rope. It started the second pull. An 1/8 turn of the needle valve and it just purrs. The motor has been in the family for 40 years and probably doesn't have 20 hours on it. A real gem. Now I have a mate for my 1978 35hp Johnson on my 1978 Starcraft.
I love the old stuff.

Good stuff. Check the temp. on top of the head when running. If it's too hot to touch, it's too hot. Would change out the gear oil, if you haven't done that. Nice motor.

I put it in a lakefor a couple hours for the first time on many, many years. It ran great. Idled low enough to give me 1mph without coughing or loading up. Temps were good. Acceleration was smooth through out. Going to try again for pics. Can't do. I get a screen saying I've exceeded the 2mb limit, I don't know how to shrink them.
Any way it was a great feeling seeing it running again. I've soaked up a bunch of knowledge here. My old motors and I thank everyone.
