It's a disease

I know this is is a disease, I bought my 16'SS found an 18'SS for my brother and then went for a ride in his before I even had my newly rebuild 16 on the water. Now my 16 is a real nice boat but after taking it out for a couple of spins on the lake and the water getting rough it is not like the 18SS at all!!!! So I have been looking at 18's on Kijiji and Craigs list for a month and a half, I missed on a few good deals by a couple of days and then found a great one. I went into this wanting an 18 SS O/B but came across this 18 with a 120 mercruiser listed as a 1977 for $2250. Called the fellow and he said it was in great shape as the pictures showed. Has been used basically 1 week a year since it was new at a lake in NW Minnesota. I jumped in the truck on Friday morning and headed out the 875 miles to International falls to see this boat. It was sitting in the water waiting for me fired it up went for a tour on the lake loaded it up and drove 975 miles home, ( made a wrong turn) and love it. Turns out it is a 1972 not a 77 but in great shape. I don't know if there is a cure for the disease, but I don't really care.

Take a couple of punches on your man card. Good job. They say bigger is better. When confronted with these type of choices, I ask myself; What would Tim the Toolman Taylor do.

Oh yea, the cure is worse than the disease. DON"T FIGHT IT.

Great looking boat! 875 miles is a long haul, i complain when i have to drive 100 miles for something!:D

I hear they are working on a cure for the disease, but I sure hope they don't find it!:D

Your patience paid off, and when you saw it sitting in the water for a test drive you probably knew it was going home with you. Good work.

Re: It"s a disease

Thanks everyone, after the drive home I said hi to the wife washed the boat and the truck. Then changed the oil in the boat motor , repaired the alternator mount, and gave it a test run on the muffs.
HA I know you are a lot closer to this one than me, you may want to check it out, the lady sent me some photos of the inside and it is just like it came out of the show room. They owned it from new, but her husband just passed away and she want to sell it. It was just to far for me to drive. It has been for sale since the 4th of April I am sure $1500. would take it away. If you want the photos of the inside pm me.

Congrats on the new great lookin boat Dozer!
I think that next year I'll start lookin for an 18'. This winter my 16' SS is going to get a resto, then maybe I'll be on the lookout :). It is a disease...
One question though. Are you going to keep your 16'?

Re: It"s a disease

Boatguy, the blue on your boat is the same as on my new 18, Have you had it out yet? The guy I bought it from said everything is origional, so it must be a stock color. I just love how the 120 runs, it is so quite, but kind of puts this rumble though the boat.( never thought I would say that about a 2.5 Chevy Four) being a car guy for the last 30 years. And yes the 16' SS is for sale, but up here in Canada they bring anywhere from $4500. to 8000.00 in good condition, and I have just under 10000.00 in this one, yikes I got screwed when I bought it, but had to keep going to have anything decent.
Now I have to help support our sponsor I-Boats with an order for the new one.

Nice boat. Almost nice enough for me to be willing to ignore the I/O. Almost... ;)

Dozer, I've had my 16' out a couple times now and really enjoy it. Even better score on your boat that it's all original like mine! I sometimes wish that I had an i/o for the quietness and out of sight type thing. Good luck on the selling of the 16' as well. Who knows someone might come along and give you a pretty darn good offer.

Looks great, of course you do understand 'that medicine' only works temporarily right?

Nice score!

Buy two Starcrafts and call me in the morning. :D

Nice find, glad it was worth the trip for ya. Would have been a serious bummer to come home without it in tow.
