Paul's right. If you just use a screwdriver, tighten up until they feel "tight." It's hard to explain how something feels when it's tight enough...it's just a feeling you get from experience.<br /><br />Most tools that fit a fastener properly, have handles that are sized to give the proper torque with similar pressure. For example, a 7/16" combination wrench is shorter than a 5/8" combination wrench. To twist off or strip a 1/4" machine screw with a normal 7/16" wrench, you'd have to put abnormal pressure on the wrench. Normally, you just wouldn't do it.<br /><br />When I was a youngster, just starting out working on stuff, I broke a few things, but it didn't take long before I learned just how hard to lean on something to tighten it, and how hard to untwist a stuck fastener so as not to bust it.<br /><br />I guess you have to break off a few things before you learn. <br /><br />That said, if you use a normal-sized screwdriver to tighten those bowl screws and don't twist the heck out of 'em, you're unlikely to break them off.
