I've decided to replace my 4.3LX....thoughts on with what motor to replace it?

My existing engine is just falling apart and I've decided to replace it. It's a 1995 4.3LX mercruiser with a 4BB carb. I just bought a new SEI 1.81R outdrive so I'm going to stick with the same size engine. I was thinking about just buying a new crate motor and was curious if it would be a simple change out. Obviously the new engine would be fuel injected....is that an easy conversion to make? Have y'all had/heard of any luck with a remanufactured engine?

Thanks in advance.

I had a 1994 4.3LX, changed out in 2006 for a 4.3MPI.. The transom housings, drive and bell housing on the back of the engine, exhaust manifolds and all the exhaust system is the same (my 2006 has the dry-joints and I like them better)... Shouldn't be too difficult a change.... Even the instrument harness is the same....

You won't be able to use an automotive EFI system on your boat. Automotive has O[SUB]2[/SUB] sensors that marine doesn't, timing is different, fuel mapping is different, and marine engines run a lot colder than automotive.
If you can find a Marine EFI bobtail engine, they are designed for the purpose.
