J115TDLECM not charging no tach

I took my boat out fishing the other day and had to switch the batteries because the starting battery died. I tested the rectifier and it appears to have a couple of bad diodes in it. Does this model have a regulator/rectifier as well. The stator seems to test ok. I had a loss of starting power as well. The loss of starting power has me stumped too though. The tach is not working, but I figured that was from the rectifier not working. Please help before I order my parts.

Thanks,
Frank

I cannot locate the model number you have given! (you sure about that "D")

However it will have either the round type non regulated rectifier or the water cooled rectifier/regulator not both.

If you are satisfied that the rectifier has a couple of bad diodes and that the stator is OK replace the rectifier. That should get the battery charging even if there is another reason for the tach not working.

The lack of power for starting, assuming you battery is fully charged and good, could be due to a poor connection. Check and clean them all, not forgetting the negative/ground connections.

Make sure you never connect the battery with the polarity reversed .. that will blow the regulator in an instant. Also avoid disconnecting the battery while it is running .. that may also blow the rectifier.
