j1171 distributor points?

i cant seem to find the the replacement points for this distributor. can anyone point me in the right direction? thank you. would like to rebuild this one if possible.

Those aren't points . Looks like the sensor in a thunderbolt distributor. What are you working on ? merc serial number if u have it

You have Thunderbolt electronic all that you replace is the cap and rotor

That's the old style sensor, and those solder joints look REALLY crusty. Are you having a problem? If so, what?

Have a read of THIS post to understand what you're looking at, and click HERE to see a parts breakdown (part #11 is the sensor).

That 'SAE J1171' is not a part number, or any identification at all. It's the standard to which the distributor conforms. It basically says it's approved for installation in a boat... Your distributor is a Mercury Marine Thunderbolt IV.

SAE is Society of Automotive Engineers. they write the standards

SAE J1171 - External Ignition Protection of Marine Devices is the standard that defines electrics in a bilge and fuel tank space that wont blow you up because there is no external spark potential.

Buy a new Mercruiser brand sensor. It's enclosed instead of open like the old one you have and is much more robust. Do not buy an off-brand sensor!
