Folks,

I can't seem to figure out what these are in the top of the Cyl.

It is not clear in my clymer, I think they are the temp sensors. Below are the pictures (My first time with pics, so I hope this works).

Thought101,

Not trying to be sarcastic, but are you guessing?

I think what I am looking at is the water jacket on the top of the Cyl, with the temp sensor.

Any clarification would be great.

Looks like the pics worked :)

Safe boating to all.

Cheers.

emp.

Ed...If you are ttalking about the covers on the head...yes, they cover the water jackets...I hope you don't have to remove them. likely to break some bolts...arg

Photo 1 shows orginal temp sensor with tan wire, and 1 accessory temp sender with out wire. Photo 2 shows orginal temp sensors with tan wire.

Re: J140 1982, What are these parts

Thanks Thought101,

That is what I think one of my problems is, if you look at the first picture, there is rust around the lower spark plug and head. I think the water jacket is leaking at the gasket.

My clymer shows a "typical V4", but it doesn't show the sensor clearly, it shows a thermo switch, but I am not sure they are the same thing, the thermo switch is also not on the top of the head.

I have good compression on the cyl. 115, 118, 115, 117.

Any additional info is welcome.

Safe boating to all.

Cheers.

emp.

Re: J140 1982, What are these parts

Thanks guys,

I noticed you all replied before I saved my response.

Next question is given the aux sensor is disconnected (I don't know why), the tan wires seem to disappear, I think the warning horn is not working correctly in addition after about 25 min of running, motor starts to hesitate and then drops down to and won't go over an idle. After shutting down and waiting all seems fine again. Is there some kind of saftey circuit to make this happen so the motor doesn't completely overheat and destroy itself.

I think I definately have a heating problem.

My plan was to confirm that the sensors are working correctly and that that the thermostats are operating properly.

It seems it would be easier to work on these parts without the lower pan, is this easily removed. Once again Clymer doesn't seem to give a clear indication, they show the motor without the pan.

Any additional help is greatly appreciated.

Safe boating to all.

Cheers.

emp.
