Folks,

After rebuilding hull and examining various components of the motor, I have come to the conclusion I need to tear it down and re-build.

There are multiple layers of white paint on the motor, when I removed the exhaust covers I could see a green paint, also this same color paint is underneath the white on the exhaust housing and lower unit.

Does anyone know the orginal colors for the various components, including the head (which is now white). My intention is to rebuild/restore the motor to the original factory condition, including colors.

Here is a picture.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Safe boating to all.

Cheers.

emp.

Ed,

The green you are seeing is zinc chromate primer. Just one of the many coats of primer used to aid in paint adhesion and corrosion protection.

I believe your engine was originally-white.

By the way, anywhere you sand down to bare metal will have to be recoated with zinc chromate. John/Rude dealers sell it by the spray can. Also, any areas should be washed with 50/50 solution of vinegar and water before applying the zinc chromate.
