I recently bought a used 1996 200 hp Evinrude lower unit from a E200txedr and was hoping it would be a direct swap with my 2000 Johnson 150 hp counter rotating. I am trying to make a change since prop selection for the counter rotating is limited. All looks the same except the shift rod and drive shaft on the Evinrude which each are approximately one inch longer than the counter rotating Johnson. The parts diagrams in each case show a two piece drive shaft. My question is can I swap the Upper drive shafts and shift rods easily?

No.....Easiest is take both to dealer and let them take driveshaft tool and pop em loose or drain and use a 10lbd barbell weight over shaft with 2 pair of vice grips on end by splines, hang unit upside down off a bench and slam weight into pliers. They just pop back in.

So there must be a locking circlip at the bearing end of the shaft? Would this apply to both the model year 2000 150 hp counter rotating and 1996 200 hp rotating. Sorry to appear anal on this but I have seen exploded diagrams showing roll pins being used to secure the Upper shaft to the geared end.

Just inverted the gearbox and clamped vice grips on the reduced diameter next to the splines. Two smacks with a hammer and out it came. Thanks for your help Faztbullet!
