J185TLCOC vacuum switch? what is this?

Hey Guys,
I'm a Noob so bear with me.What does the Vacuum switch do on a 1985 185 hp johnson?It connects to the fuel line at a Tee in the line after the filter before the pump.Any ideas?

Should you encounter a fuel restriction between the fuel pump and the fuel supply, a vacuum will be created at that switch which will cause the warning horn to sound constantly..... the same warning as you would encounter if the engine overheated.
