Attempting to locate a troubleshooting procedure for a friends outboard. 1982 Johnson 25 hp. No spark. Owner stated it overheated and quit twice. Second time was no spark. I looked it over, it has no indication of an overheat, and just cranking it over it spits water pretty good. Could be a thermostat issue, but can't tell till I get spark back. I'm just guessing it was a spark issue the first time also. Just Need a troubleshooting procedure for it.

You will need a specialized DVA meter or DVA adapter for a regular DMM to be able to test it. But here is link the the guide.
