I just acquired this 1984 40 hp Johnson. It runs good but the cowling/hood/whatever you call it is missing. It is one of those that has the lock handle on the cowling both front and back. Anyone have any idea where one might get his hands on one of these?

Dhadley, I just got off the phone with Jack and Mike about the cowling.
They have a 50Hp cowling with the latch handles on the hood and thought it should fit. As I am in Valdosta, Ga. and shipping would be involved both ways if it didn't fit. I thought I would see if you had any idea as to fit of that hood.

If Jack says it'll work, I'd bet on it. OMC used the same hoods for a number of years on a given motor and a lot of theose 2 cyl hoods were the same except for decals. Jack is pretty darn good at that stuff since he's been doing it for quite a while.

yeah my 71 50 hood fit my 89 48. i did it just for kicks to see if it would fit.
